Religion Engenders Moral Rectitude, Says Ahmed
Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has stated that religion, if fundamentally upright and properly focused, could be used to engender moral rectitude in Nigeria.
To that end, he urged religious institutions to partner his government in promoting moral values and good conduct in the state. Speaking during the assalat (prayer) by the Ilorin branch of Nasrullahi-l-fatihi Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) in Ilorin, Ahmed stressed that the partnership would assist in stemming moral decadence in the society.
He attributed most religious crises in the country to intolerance and lack of proper understanding of religion by some adherents. However, he commended NASFAT for the feat achieved by enlightening the Moslem faithful on Islam and assured the society of his continuous support to its educational and moral programmes.
Ahmed also charged NASFAT and other religious bodies to lend their voices to demanding good governance and accountability in the country just as he promised that his government would not renege in showing good examples and transparency in governance despite huge resource challenges.
