'Only 13 pharmacists in Kwara'
Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Kwara State chapter, Mr. Francis Olayiwola, has said that the state government has only 13 pharmacists employed in 31 health institutions across the state.
Olayiwola said the level of pharmacist staffing in the state was "dangerously low."
He said the situation had done harm to the people of the state and that it would do greater harm if not addressed urgently.
He spoke in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Thursday during a media briefing to mark the World Pharmacy Day.
Olayiwola said some pharmacists who were indegenes of the state prepared to be employed in other states than Kwara because of what he alleged as the unfavourable environment obtainable in the state.
said, "The state has in its employment only about 13 pharmacists, out of which at least four will be retiring from service between next year and the next two years.
"Though the state had made previous attempts to employ pharmacists, there have been situations where six pharmacists employed have resigned their appointments within six months of employment due to the non-conducive environment of the workplace."
