Proprietor makes case for ICT education
The Proprietor, Modelak Science College, Ilorin, Kwara State, Chief Moses Dele, and a former Director of the state Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Shuaib Mohammed, have called for a science and technologically based education in the nation's secondary schools.
Noting the importance of information and communication technology to development, the educationists canvassed that secondary schools pupils needed ICT knowledge and exposure.They stated this during the Modelak Science College graduation in Ilorin on Thursday.According to Dele, science and computer education is a veritable tool for preparing pupils on how to self sufficient in the future.
He noted the importance the school attached to science education prompted it to establish an e-library and a computer centre.
Mohammed, in his remarks on the occasion, urged the government to give priority to science education, saying it is the elixir for development.
He said, "or Nigeria to be identified as a truly developed nation, there is the need for our economy to be robust. We must diversify and balance our economy. Our agricultural services and industries must grow in a competitive environment.
"There must be tremendous opportunity for labour mobility; our economy must be technologically and scientifically driven, and above all move from labour intensive to knowledge intensive industries, with strong base in science and technology," Mohammed said.
