Presidency - I'll Make My Stand Known At Right Time - Saraki
A representative of Kwara Central in the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has responded to rumours of his ambition to contest for the Presidency in 2015, saying he will make his decision known at the right time.
After a stakeholders' meeting of the Kwara State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, Saraki stressed that his struggle was not a personal ambition despite criticism and blackmail from several quarters.
Commenting on the recent Ekiti and Osun states' governorship elections, he commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a generally acceptable election in Osun State, urging the umpire to maintain the tempo during next year's general elections.
The senator pointed out that the performance of the commission in both elections had shown that it (INEC) was getting it right.
He, however, condemned what he termed constant arrest of the opposition members by the ruling party, which he noted was not the best means of winning an election, as the electorates would decide who would govern them.
"The integrity and credibility of INEC can be sustained if it repeats the same feat of credible election nationwide by next year," he said.
The spokesman for the APC, Lai Mohammed, had accused the ruling party of being responsible for his arrest few days before the Osun election that was held on August 9.
He said his party would go to court to seek redress for infringement on his right and that of other APC members that were arrested.
