Eid-Fitr is Today, Sunday. - Sultan
The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Saad Abubakar on Saturday night announced the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal, 1435 AH on the 29th day of Ramadan 1435, which is equivalent to 26th July 2014.
Making the announcement in a special broadcast at his Palace before Journalists, the Sultan stated that “reliable reports of moon sighting were received from Muslim leaders across the country, including: the Shehu of Borno, Lamido of Adamawa; Emirs of Katsina, Daura, Zazzau, Hadejia and Minna.
“Others include Emirs of Kontagora, Zuru, Talata Mafara, Tsafe, Bungudu, Muri, Gusau, Anka and some parts of Sokoto state.”
“In line with the laid down Islamic rules and regulations, the Sultan declared: “Consequent upon this tomorrow Sunday, 27th day of July 27th 2014 becomes the first day of Shawwal 1435 AH and the day of Eid-el-Fitr.”
Congratulating all Muslims for the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, Sultan Saad prayed to God to “give us the ability and courage to live peacefully with one another irrespective of religious and tribal differences.”
