Kwara Moves Against Environmental Hazards.
The Kwara State government has restated its commitment towards guiding against all forms of environmental hazards across the state to ensure the well being of the people.
The Secretary to the State Government(SSG), Alhaji Isiaka Gold stated this in llorin at a two-day trainers’ training workshop organised by the Ministry of Environment.
Gold solicited the cooperation and support of Kwarans in this regard.
The SSG warned residents of the state living in the flood prone areas to relocate to safer places in order to avert flood disaster.
He advised the residents of the state to dispose refuses properly and abide by environmental laws in order to avert occurrence of flooding and all other environmental
related hazards.
Gold stated that the trainers were expected to train 1,100 youths engaged under the Quickwin programme of the state government for environmental purposes.
He, therefore, urged the trainees to avail themselves of the opportunity offered by the workshop.
The state’s commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Alhaji Abubakar Mora said that the participants were drawn from across the 16 local government areas of the state to enhance healthy
environment in their various domains.
The Director, Centre for Ecological and Environmental Research Management and Studies, Kwara State University, Malete, Dr Henry Sawyerr in his remarks said the training would be focused on 16 major areas of environment.
