Kwara approves N78M for civil servants
Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed approved the sum of N78million for increment in salaries of civil servants as well as the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) contribution.
The state Head of Service, Alhaji Dabarako Mohammed, disclosed this yesterday while addressing a press conference.
Mohammed said the increment covers civil servants in the main service and teaching service commission, adding that other government parastatals are expected to effect the increment.
He denied that the parastatals are not buoyant to pay, saying, "Once I observe their profile, I always tell them that they can pay. I always tell all the parastatals that they can pay except those that are social outfits and we know them. Government will do something about those that do not make any money".
Speaking on the strike of staff of colleges of education which was called off this week, the Head of Service noted that the union should not have gone on strike in the first place.
The strike was called off after about one and half months following the intervention of former governor of the state, Bukola Saraki. According to the HoS, the governor had, prior to the strike where they demanded for improvement in infrastructures, among others, constituted a committee to look into infrastructural needs of the colleges.
