Court Dissolves Seven Year Old Marriage Over Recurring Misunderstanding
A Kosubosu Area Court in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara on Wednesday dissolved a seven-year-old marriage between Musa Sosa and his wife, Sekinat.
Sekinat had approached the court seeking a separation from the husband she married in 2007.
The plaintiff told the court that she was tired of their union because of perpetual misunderstanding.
"Please I want an end to our marriage. I am tired of constant misunderstanding, " she said.
The plaintiff said that the union was blessed with a male child.
The respondent was, however, not present in court.
In his judgement, the Area Court Judge, Malam Ahmed Yahaya said that it was evident that the respondent was served, but was absent without any reason.
"Divorce is hereby entered in favour of the plaintiff," he said.
"She is to observe Iddah (Islamic period of waiting before remarrying) for three months, " Yahaya said.The judge also ordered that a certificate of divorce be issued to the plaintiff upon payment of the necessary court fees.
He also held that the parties had a right of appeal before an Upper Area Court within 30 days. (NAN)
