Turn-out for APC's registration impressive... shortage of materials in Offa.

Date: 2014-02-09

The  membership registration exercise of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Offa Local Government Area witnessed a tremendous turn-out as party faithful trooped out in large numbers to get registered.

The exercise which started on Wednesday 5th and expected to last for five days witnessed another twist as registration materials containing 100 slips allotted to each of  the 83 wards in the area had been exhausted by the next day Thursday 6th February, 2013.

As at Friday scores of prospective members were seen waiting endlessly at various poling units  to be registered on Friday but to no avail as the registration officers  informed the aggrieved members that registration material were finished and there is no assurance more registration slips will come soon.

At  Asalofa Open space in Ojomu central B ward, membership materials had been exhausted by Thursday, while membership slips had also been exhausted at Beleore polling unit in Shawo South East ward as at 11.00 am on Thursday.

The Herald on Sunday investigations revealed that two packs of 50 slips each allotted to each polling unit is small in an area that is the strong hold of the APC , which is the reason for the acute shortage of membership registration materials.

It was reliably gathered that another routine registration exercise may not be conducted until three months after this initial exercise, which may deny many prospective members from being duly registered till the next exercise.

Meanwhile, a prominent politician in the area and the facilitator of Irede Ambassadors, a socio-political group in Kwara south senatorial district, Otunba  Olaosebikan Omokayode AbdulManjeed, has commended the Chairman of Offa Local Government Area, Prince OluwaSegun AbdulWaheed Olanipekun for the provision of logistics for smooth conduct of the registration exercise , even as he stated that the Stakeholders also complimented the efforts of the Council Chairman in the quest for a successful membership registration drive.

Olasebikan described the Leader of the party in Kwara, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki as God sent, stressing that the tremendous acceptability of the party in the state gives credence to the religious aphorism that: He who is with God, is with the people. He also commended Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed as good apostle of the Legacies continuity initiative of Senator Saraki, praying God to continue to guide him as he steers the ship of state of harmony to greater heights.

Meanwhile, the people of Kwara state have been commended for their impressive turnout  for the  on-going national membership registration of All Progressives Party (ACP)

The former national coordinator, Yar’Adua/Jonathan campaign organisation,Barrister Mohammed Amir Abdulkadri Al-Ilori gave the commendation during an exclusive interview with The Herald on Wednesday at Alanamu ward of Ilorin West local government, one of the centres for the registration.

Al-Ilori expressed joy over the turnout of the people for the registration exercise and attributed the way and manner kwarans are conducting themselves on the exercise to a clear  indication that the people of the state were really convinced about the reasons for the defection earlier stated by Senator Bukola Saraki and Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed

The former coordinator advised the people of the state to continue to conduct themselves peacefully and  sensitize others on the benefits of the APC membership registration

He said the registration was to take a data of all the members of the party, describing it as a necessary tool for the development of the APC and democracy in the country

He mentioned that the APC leadership is known for exemplary leadership quality, hoping and praying that the leadership will continue to wax stronger on this good features so that people will continue to throng into the party

The cross section of APC stalwarts from Alanamu ward, who spoke at the center, also commended the officers assigned to the center for their diligence and sense of understanding, saying that they have been doing their best to demonstrate the training they acquired for the registration purpose
