The Governor of Kwara state, his Excellency Dr AbdulFatah Ahmed today led top government officials, the military and para-military to perform the 2014 Armed Forces Remembrance Day wreath laying ceremony at the amusement park Ilorin.

The governor who arrived at the venue took a salute shortly on arrival, after which he inspected a guard of honour by the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.

Prayers were offered for the repose of the souls of the fallen heroes and for peace, security and unity of the nation in both the Christians and Islamic way after which the governor laid wreath  at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Others who also laid wreaths were the commander 22 armoured brigades, Nigerian army, Sobi-barracks; Brigadier General Idris Alkali, Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Mr. Agboola Oshodi-Glover among other top military officials.

Royal Times reports that some retired military officers lamented the plight of defendants of fallen heroes who laid their lives for the unity and well-being of Nigeria and the world. They however called on the federal and state government to continue to support and encourage the Nigerian legion with an increase in allowances being paid to retired soldiers
