Date: 2013-12-28

Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara on Friday urged judicial officers in the state to handle cases before them with dispatch and sincerity of purpose. Ahmed, who made the call at the swearing in of two new High Court judges in Ilorin, reminded the judges that justice delayed is justice denied.

The governor said that the position of judge calls for hard work, discretion and commitment. saying his administration placed priority to quick dispensation of justice. This, he added, was the hallmark of any exceptional judicial system, saying; 'we equally realise that this can only happen in a supporting environment'.

Ahmed congratulated the new judges: Justices Adenike Akinpelu and Aminat Ish'aq on their well deserved appointments. According to him, appointment was based on their distinguished career in the law profession and other personal attributes following a thorough and rigorous selection process.

The governor restated the commitment of his administration to the rule of law and promised to spare no effort in the justice sector reform especially in the area of quick dispensation of justice. He expressed his government's commitment to good and conducive working environment for judicial officers and staff to yield high performance.

'I call on all judicial personnel to reciprocate government's gesture by upholding the sanctity of the judiciary and shunning inappropriate conduct,' he added.

'The progressive embrace of peace, law and order across the State, which, to my mind, is responsible for our reputation for Harmony also attests to this', he added.

He commended the people of the state for keeping the peace and supporting government in its efforts to create shared prosperity for the benefit of all stakeholders. Ahmed, therefore, warned trouble makers and criminals to stay away from the state as there was no room for them in Kwara.

'Let me sound a clear warning to troublemakers; stay away from our state; we have no room for you here.

'If you come here, our people will expose you, our law enforcement will apprehend you and our courts will punish you,' the governor declared.

Responding, Justices Adenike Akinpelu thanked the government and promised not to disappoint the people of the state in their assignment.
