In line with its community service mandate, the University of Ilorin Library has donated 1859 titles of books in 3,676 volumes in various disciplines to secondary schools in Kwara State as well as the state School of Nursing, Ilorin.

The University Librarian, Dr. Joseph Omoniyi, handed over the books to the representatives of the various benefitting schools on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali.

The schools that got the book donations are, Taoheed Secondary School, Ilorin; Ansarul Deen Islamic Secondary School, Ijomu-Oro; Banni Community Secondary School, Banni; Government High School, Adeta, Ilorin; Rehoboth College, Tanke, Ilorin;  St. Clare's Grammar School, Offa;  Agbeyangi Community Secondary School, Agbeyangi; Eruku Secondary Commercial College, Eruku and Obaji Comprehensive High School, Ekan-Meje;

Others are, Oke-Ode Grammar School, Oke-Ode; Mandate Secondary School, Adeta;  Sarat Model College, Isale-Koko, Oja-Gboro; ECWA Secondary School, Ganmo;  Government Day Secondary School, Olokuta, Ilorin; Central Secondary School, Iji-Isin; Government Day Secondary School, Adewole, Ilorin,; Ansar Islam College, Oloje, Ilorin; Okeonigbin Grammar School, Okeonigbin; Okeya High School, Okeya-Ipo; and Baptist Grammar School, Ipee;

In another development, the African Liberty Students Organisation (ALSO), University of Ilorin Chapter, has donated 40 titles of books in various disciplines to the University of Ilorin Library.

Receiving the books, the Deputy University Librarian, Mr. A. K. Martey, who represented the University Librarian, Dr. Joseph Omoniyi, thanked the organisation for the gesture, adding that the Library would ensure that the end users would use the materials judiciously.

Earlier in his remarks, the President of ALSO, Mr. Alabede Surajudeen Kayode, disclosed that the donation was in fulfillment of the organisation's mandate to academic libraries.

Among those who witnessed the event were the Director, Publisher and Outreach, ALSO, Mr. Thomas Adedayo and the Ag. Head, Readers' Services Division, University of Ilorin Library, Mr. W. B. Adeoti-Adekeye.
