Educationist urges FG to establish more research centres

Date: 2013-12-04

An educationist, Dr Ismail Jiddah, on Monday urged the Federal Government to establish more research centres and laboratories in the country.

Jiddah made the call, while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.

He said that the establishment of research centres and laboratories would stimulate advanced research activities in the nation's education sector.

The don also advised the federal and state governments to fund the education sector adequately in order to increase the level of literacy in the country

Jiddah, however, bemoaned the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), saying that the industrial action had caused a setback to the country and its education sector in particular.

He appealed to the Federal Government to address the demands of the union to prevent the crisis from escalating.
