The Kwara State Police Command has arrested on Olobayo Femi Abayomi, a Inspector at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) for alleged oil bunkering.

It was gathered that the suspect was arrested on Monday about 10am for allegedly siphoning petrol from Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) pipeline alon Asa Dam area,Ilorin which he was order to guard as Anti-pipeline Vandals deployed from the Service.

The suspect was arrested with six jerry cans of 30 litres each and one empty jerry can loaded in his Nissan Primera with registration number Kwara AG641-FUF.

Speaking to journalists at the Police Headquarters in Ilorin, while parading the suspect, said the suspect confessed that two jerry cans belonged to him while the remaining four belong to his two colleagues, who are now at large.

"I don’t know why they ran away and left me. Yes, the two jerry cans are mine but the remaining four filled with petrol were picked from the bush by the police on patrol and they loaded everything in my car", he stated.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Kwara State Police Command, DSP Olufemi Fabode, said investigation is till on-going on the matter and that the suspect would be prosecuted accordingly.

"Why would those saddled with the responsibility of protecting the pipelines now turn out to be vandals themselves? So, if their superior officers continue to deny, it means they too are aware of the crime,"he said.
