CIIN lauds introduction of Insurance in KWASU
The President, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Mr. Fatai Lawal, has said that the introduction of Insurance as a course of study in the Kwara State University will help to boost the development of insurance in Kwara State.
He said this during the CIIN's education seminar and book presentation ceremony for tertiary institutions in Ilorin.
Lawal said, "The approval for the introduction of Insurance as a course of study in Kwara State University is a welcome development. This will increase the opportunity for secondary school leavers to choose a worthwhile career in insurance and actuarial science.”
The CIIN boss noted that KWASU was among the four tertiary institutions slated to receive the institute's support by way of books donation worth N600,000 for each institution.
The other institutions, he added, are the Joseph Ayo Babalola University, the Federal Polytechnic, Offa and The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
Two weeks ago, Lawal had said that the council took the initial step by making similar donations to the University of Lagos, the Lagos State University, Redeemers' University and Lagos State Polytechnic.
He said the body had also scheduled subsequent donations to Imo State University, Owerri; Niger Delta University, Bayelsa; Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori; Enugu State University, Enugu; Institute of Management & Technology, Enugu; and the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State.
According to him, the institute is on the verge of concluding the production of an insurance textbook for secondary schools and will present the book during its forthcoming graduation ceremony in December, in Lagos.
He said this would reinforce the approval of Insurance as a course of study in secondary schools by the Federal Ministry of Education.
Lawal added that three copies of the book would be donated free-of-charge to each of the over 2,000 public secondary schools in the federation as a significant step towards entrenching insurance in the consciousness of the future leaders of the nation.
"The construction work at the College of Insurance and Financial Management at Asese village, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, is progressing satisfactorily. I urge our members and institutions in the industry to support the project so that we can build a world-class college to advance insurance education in Nigeria,"Lawal said.
