The Chairman of the Kwara State Council of the NUJ, Malam Abiodun Abdulkareem, said the union would collaborate with academic institutions in the state to train and empower its members.

Abdulkareem said this on Wednesday in Ilorin during a courtesy call on the Provost of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, Dr Isiaka Opobiyi.

He congratulated the provost on his appointment and promised that the union would collaborate with the college to project its image positively.

Abdulkareem emphasised the importance of education, describing it as the ``pivot on which all development rests''.

He also lauded the state government for appointing the new provost, describing the appointment as well-deserved.

Responding, Opobiyi thanked the union for the visit and assured it of the college's readiness to partner the union on training.

Opobiyi, who commended the union for its information dissemination efforts, said the college relied largely on the media in publicising its programmes.

He said he intended to restore the past glory of the college, and that the new management had mapped out strategies aimed at enhancing the college's position among other institutions. (NAN)
