Give loan to more workers, NLC urges Kwara Govt
Kwara State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Umar Farouk has appealed to the state government to make loan accessible for more workers in the state.
Farouk made the call in reaction to the N3bn loan flagged off recently for teachers and other categories of workers in the state by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
No fewer than 5000 workers including 2,323 teachers under the state teaching service commission (TESCOM), 228 from state Universal basic education board (SUBEB) benefited from the loan.
Speaking at the presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries, Ahmed described civil servants as "foot soldiers of good governance", charging them to reciprocate the government's gesture with loyalty and dedication to duty.
The NLC chairman in a chat with Daily Trust charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the loan so that repaying it would be seamless for them.
"I want to appreciate the fact that government is sourcing loan for workers and for those who still desire it, who have not benefitted, I plead with government to go ahead to look for more windows of opportunity where they can secure more loan for everybody who desires it.
"I equally appreciate government for considering the financial capability, the net pay of each individual before considering what individual is due for so that the burden on each worker cannot be too much more than what the workers can make to make life meaningful for them,"he said.
