Heartland crisis over, storm Ilorin for ABS clash
The Media Officer of Heartland Football Club of Owerri, Kajetan Nkwokpara, has revealed that the crisis rocking the club over unpaid players’ contract fees has been resolved.
Speaking to newsmen over the weekend, the spokesman asserted that the club and the players reached a compromise after a round table talk as both parties have agreed to be committed to their responsibilities for the interest of the club.
According to Nkwokpara, “the management and players have reached a compromise on the issue that led to the protest of Sunday after Week 32 ties with 3SC through a serious dialogue. As I speak to you now we are on our way to Ilorin for Week 33 clash with ABS.
“The players had protested over unpaid match bonuses, sign-on fees and other remunerations, but after the dialogue with management, they showed some understanding which is a sign of maturity. They have also agreed to prosecute their remaining six matches without any issue that will sabotage their efforts.
The Naze Millionaires had taken their destiny into their hands after Week 32 game against 3SC of Ibadan which they narrowly survived by forcing the visitors to a 1-1 draw at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri vowing to continue the protest until their demands are met.
Only recently the state government paid the players about 30 percent of their contract fees, but reports says the amount was a far cry from what players are being owed, hence the renewed protest.
