Press Release: President Buhari will enjoy working with Bukola Saraki - Kwara APC

Date: 2015-06-18

The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reassured Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari will find the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Bukola Saraki as a reliable and dependable companion in their collective quest to foster good governance and enthrone a regime of positive change in the country.

"As a former Special Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Budget, a former two-term Governor, a Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum and a legislator with cognate experience, Sen. Saraki is coming onboard the senate leadership with a rich executive and legislative experience in the art of governance.

"At several fora, Sen. Saraki has solemnly declared that he owes Nigerians his best efforts at effective representation as well as accountability, honesty, fairness, and courtesy. We recall with satisfaction, that as a member of the outgone 7th Senate, Sen. Saraki did his utmost to serve his constituents and the nation with wisdom, courage and honesty. It is judging from this antecedent that we believe that as the Senate President, Sen. Saraki will be true to these obligations, and will work to preserve the greatness of Nigeria and Nigerians.

"As a party under which platform he emerged, we assure that Sen. Saraki will promote the equality of all without fear or favour. He will not act, nor condone others in acting, in ways which exploit, slander, or discriminate against others. He will not act, nor condone others in acting, in ways which are dishonest or which exploit positions of privilege for personal gain.

"Sen. Saraki does not hide his respect and support for President Muhammadu Buhari both in private and in public. It was out of this respect that he graciously stepped down as a presidential aspirant of the APC in the build-up to the historic presidential primaries of the APC which held in Lagos, thereby paving the way for the deserved victory of President Buhari. That rare gesture, taken in spite of pressure and inducement, which the President himself acknowledged and commended, was an open show of respect and admiration for President Muhammadu Buhari. We are deeply convinced that every inch of this respect and admiration for the President waxes stronger in the vein of the Senate President and he will not betray that for anything!

"Finally, we urge all individuals, groups and particularly sister chapters of the APC to jealously guard their utterances in respect of the minor disagreement that has trailed the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly. Instead of over-heating the polity with their utterances and releases which are largely hollow, self-serving and uninformed, sister chapters like Lagos and Ondo should rather join hands with our national leadership to ensure a quick and amicable resolution of the skirmishes so that the machinery of government may move on smoothly and quickly."

Thank you

Ahaji Sulyman Buhari
