60-yr-old man remanded for raping pupils
A 60-year-old security guard, Wahabi Buhari of Oke-Aluko, llorin, who was said to have been found in the habit of defiling primary school children, have been remanded at the Federal Medium Security Prison. Mandala, Area, llorin.
The accused was said to be in the habit of enticing the pupils with money during their break time as a result of which he forcefully has sexual intercourse with them.
Luck was against the 60-year-old man when on March 22, 2012 he allegedly had carnal knowledge of a 10-year-old pupil of Ansarudeen Primary School, Oke-Aluko, llorin, which led to his arrest.
The sister of the victim, Ali' Aminu had reported at 'C' Division Police Station, Oja-Oba, llorin, that the accused raped her younger sister (name withheld).
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter, during investigation at Stale CID, llorin. it was discovered that the accused also raped two other pupils between the age of 10 and 11 years (name withheld), who are children of the same school.
The FIR added that the accused raped the victims on different days during the breakfast period, while he gave them money ranging from N 50 to N100.
He was dragged before the court on a one-count charge of rape, which contradicts Section 283 of Penal Code, law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Prosecutor, Corporal Sanni Abdul lahi objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him at the prison custody pending the determination of the case.
Hee submitted that the alleged offence is capital in nature and not ordinarily bailable, adding that if the accused was granted bail he might jump bail having known the gravity of the offence.
Magistrate Mercy Abikoye, who presided over the case refused to take the plea of the accused for lack of jurisdiction to try the matter, but ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Medium Security Prison, Mandala, Ilorin, pending the determination of the case.
The court adjourned the case till April 26, 2012 for further mention.
