Saraki Helps To Resolve APC Feud In Kwara

Date: 2014-09-06

THE leader of All Progressives Party (APC) in Kwara state, Bukola Saraki may have waded into the crisis that pitted some of the members of the youth wing of the party against some chieftains of the party in Kwara South Senatorial district.

The youth had assaulted the APC elders at Ajase-Ipo the historical headquarters of the district last week, alleging neglect of their members especially, some of those who allegedly worked for the emergence in office of the incumbent Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.

The elders led by the state’s Commissioner of Finance Demola Banu had allegedly converged at Ajase-Ipo to perfect the strategies that could make Ahmed to return as the APC candidate for the 2015 Governorship polls in Kwara.

Meanwhile, ahead of 2015 general elections in the state, the state’s Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Suleiman Yusuf yesterday canvassed peaceful co existence among residents of the existing 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.

Yusuf, who observed that harmonious relationship would engender peaceful polls, noted that the grass root formed the larger concentration of people in the state adding that if peace could be secured in such areas it would mean peace for the whole state.

He therefore cautioned Kwaran political gladiators ahead of the elections of 2015 to tread the path of a peacemaker in the overall interest of democratic institution in the state.

In a chat with The Guardian in Ilorin, he said there were ominous signs in the state that could mar the age long peace during the polls “if urgent steps are not taken” to re orientate politicians on the need to play the game in line with the Electoral Rules.

Sources said Saraki under a gentlemen agreement promised the Governor “only a single term” in office noting that other senatorial districts should be allowed a shot at the Governorship slot.
