In its bid to guide against the outbreak of Ebola virus fever, the llorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State has inaugurated eight-man committee on control and prevention of the disease.

The committee was inaugurated at Oke-Oyi, the headquarters of the council, by the state Chairman of Ebola Control and Prevention Committee, Professor Sunday Opabola.

He said the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, directed the establishment of the committee across the 16 local government areas for better control and prevention of the virus, noting that three Ebola screening centers have been established and equipped, one each in the three senatorial districts of the state.

According to him, the operations of the new committee are not independent of the state committee, stressing that regular reports of their activities must be forwarded to the state committee for proper monitoring.

The Local Government Chairman, Mr Abdullateef Okandeji, commended the state government’s efforts towards setting up the committees across all local governments, saying that his council had taken bold steps to promote public health through the mobilization of the council’s Environmental and Public Health Officers for better service delivery to the public.

He appealed to Kwarans to adhere strictly to the preventive tips for the control of Ebola virus which include personal hygiene and regular washing of hands with soaps.
