KWARA EXPLAINS BAN ON PRODUCTION, SALE OF CHARCOAL
The Kwara State Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Alhaji Abubakar Mora, has described charcoal producers as enemies of the state.
Speaking at an event to mark this year’s World Environment Day organised by the state office of National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), he noted that charcoal production was banned in the state because the act was exposing people to danger.
“They are killing our trees; they are increasing the temperature that you and I need to enjoy. When it is raining, go and see the kind of rain that would be coming with full force because there are no trees to break the force of the rain. This exposes our people to enormous danger”, he said.
