Bukola Saraki still in Senate race

Date: 2011-03-31

Bukola Saraki, Kwara State governor is set to contest this weekend's election for the Kwara Central Senatorial district after a Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned till May 3, a case brought against him by opponent, L.A.K Jimoh.

Jimoh had asked the court to nullify the rerun election that returned Saraki as candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Saraki's successful challenge of the nullification and the court's adjournment now means he will be able to contest this weekend's polls.

The governor has also been in a political fight with his father, Olusola Saraki over the decision to field his younger sister, Gbemisola as his successor. The situation has since degenerated to a point where the father has formed another party on whose platform Gbemisola is contesting the governorship election.
