Ahmed assures on Kwara Utd
Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has assured lovers of Kwara United Football club, that a company would be registered to run it as a business enterprise with Kwarans as shareholders.
"This, we believe, will give everybody a sense of belonging as co-owners of the club side for its development," he said.
Meanwhile, the governor has canvassed that Nigeria concentrates on sporting events where she has comparative advantages and the potentials of winning laurels rather than groping for laurels in sports circles.
Governor Ahmed said this when the leadership of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) led by its National Chairman, Alhaji Saidu Abubakar paid him a visit in Ilorin.
The Governor attributed the inability of Nigeria to win laurels, in consonant with her potentials, to the fact that the country has not been very strategic in its sports development.
"If we have been very strategic, with the little we have recorded, a lot more should have happened to sporting activities in Nigeria", he said.
According to him, while Nigeria should evolve a deliberate policy to develop her capacity in other sports, those specific areas where we have obvious comparable advantage as a result of geography and physique should be strengthened and consolidated upon. Governor Ahmed advocated for a reduction in public sector involvement in sports, while the private sector should play more prominent roles.
The low involvement of the private sector in sports promotion, he noted, has engendered a culture of compromise that has undermined the nation’s potentials in sports.
