Offa Bank Robbery - House Member sends SOS to FG

Date: 2012-03-23

A lawmaker representing Essa-Shawo/Igbodun Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hassan Oyeleke, has said he is worried about the spate of bank robberies in Offa. "I am consequently sending a save-our-soul (SOS) to the Federal Government to strengthen security in the town by drafting more security agents to the area," he added.

On Wednesday, 18 armed robbers attacked three banks in the town. During the operation, which started about 2.30pm, they stole undisclosed amount of money. Oyeleke told The Nation that he was holed up in one of the banks during the incident. "I was trapped in the bank while my personal assistant escaped with my car. According to him, "bank robbery is becoming rampant in Offa because it is a commercial town."
