Allow people to choose their leaders, group tells Kwara PDP
The Kwara Change Initiative, a pressure group in Kwara State has told the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) to toe the line of people wishes by allow the electorate to decide their true leaders.
The group in a statement signed by its organizing secretary, Adewale Adefila blamed the leadership crisis in the party on the poor leadership qualities of former Governor Bukola Saraki who seeks to lead despite his inadequacies.
"The leadership crisis tearing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kwara State chapter is a reflection of the leadership by fiat that characterised both government and party administrations in the state in the last few years.
"The former governor refused to come to terms with the fact that he rode so long on the back of his late father, Dr. Olusola Saraki who during his days, helped the young man to fix nearly everything. He must again not be lost to the pseudo victory they had in the last 2011 elections.
"We wish to refresh our memories that the father in his great political sagacity gauged all the aggrieved who would have worked against his son in the defunct ACPN. Who does not want his heir to succeed him? It would also be recalled how the father was spirited in after the elections for a reconciliation where everybody including the governor was nearly prostrate. "Since that development, every democrat knew that democratic institutions in the state are under severe threat and may not survive it if they refused to rise to save the state and its structures. Dr. Bukola Saraki has since been running the state like a private estate with the active connivance of the incumbent Governor Abdul Fattah Ahmed who said repeatedly that theirs is a tag-team. "The Saraki style is outdated, what is in vogue now is meaningful engagement of all tendencies, anything short of this will always bring about avoidable crisis." The group also warned former Governor of the State, Alhaji Shaaba Laafigi from following Dr. Saraki who the National Secretariat are working against. "Alhaji Lafaiji should not misrepresent his present status for a reflection of our general opinion in the state as par the party or the government. The Sararki hegemony has worn out our patience as a people including those in government."
