Kwara gives N500m to micro banks to fight poverty
The Kwara Government has said that it has deposited N500m in micro-finance and community banks to fight poverty in the state.
Senior special Assistant to the State Governor on Poverty Alleviation, Hajia Sarah Adebayo, disclosed this on Wednesday in IIorin during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
She said the fund is meant to be accessed by any interested Individual or group to commence businesses of their choice.
The Governor's aide who did not specify the amount Individuals or groups are entitled to, advised the people of the state to make use of the opportunity.
She said the state government embarked on the measure to reduce unemployment rate and fight poverty to the lowest level.
The senior special assistant described the loan as revolving loan and advised beneficiaries to pay back on time to allow others benefit from the scheme.
She said the state government had also set aside N415m in the 2013 budget for poverty eradication in the state.
Adebayo disclosed that government has given free grant ranging from N50,000 to N250,000 to over 1000 women and youths across the 16 local government areas to commence business.
She said the state government will continue to embark on programmes that will eliminate poverty in the state by giving boost to small and medium scale enterprises.
