Nigerian Footballers Charged to Value Education
Nigerian footballers have been called upon to inculcate education in their career. Director of Sports, Kwara State Sports Council, Coach Tunde Kazeem made the call at a seminar organized for Abubakar Bukola Saraki, ABS FC tagged: “How To Plan Your Present For Better Future” by Freestyle Sport in Ilorin.
Coach Kazeem described education as one of the tools for players to liberate and guide them in the careers, adding that it is not enough for them to focus on acquiring skills, just as he charged them to sought for the knowledge as it will assist them even when to sign contracts.
Guest speaker at the seminar, Mr. Tosin Afolayan emphasized the need for players to continue learning in other profession of their choices apart from playing football.
he motivational speaker and a writer noted that since football is not taken as a career in this part of the world, and has a short career span unlike civil service, hence the need for them to start saving for retirement.
In his lecture, a financial advisor and a business planner, Mr. Yaqub Sanni called on players to have a business mindset. He appealed to club managers and management to assist their players in preparing for life after their earning years so as not to fall victims of other ex-players who live in penury after their playing careers.
A seasoned match commissioner, Mr. Adeleke Akanbi also called on the players to stay focused on the game as boozes, partying and WAGs brings about distraction.
Earlier in his remark, the brain behind the seminar, Mr. Shogo Shodunnke of FREESTYLE SPORT said the idea of Nigerian players begging for alms after their playing careers must be stopped, hence the need to bring about he concept.
Mr. Shodunnke noted that sports administrator must also need to be intimated on how to eal with the players, as they serve as models to these players, just as he added that the organization is ready to partner with other corporate bodies in actualizing the dream in reshaping the lives of Nigerian athletes.
Responding on behalf of players, captain of ABS FC, Fade Adebayo thanked the management of the club for organizing such a knowledgeable seminar for the players, and promised they will adopt and put into practice what they have learnt from the seminar.
Technical Manager of the NPFL giant Killers, Coach Suleiman Kabir Dogo appreciates the laudable concept of FREESTYLE SPORT, adding that this will go a long way in helping players and officials to manage their careers during and after their active days in the game.
While describing the need the partnership with FREESTYLE SPORT as welcome development, the general Manager of ABS FC, Alloy Chukwuemeka called on other clubs and sporting associations to emulate and relate with the body so as to eradicate poverty among the players and officials of Nigerian venturing into sports.
