Malaria: 'Kwara Distributes One Million Nets'
The Kwara government says it has distributed one million insecticide-treated nets to households in an effort to fight malaria.
Alhaji Kayode Issa, the Commissioner for Health, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ilorin.
He said government would also distribute additional insecticide-treated nets to communities that did not benefit from the first exercise.
“This has been the untiring effort of the state government’s collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health through the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), the Global Fund and other developmental partners to “ roll back malaria in Nigeria,” he said.
Issa said that the overall strategy of the ongoing campaign in the state was to reduce morbidity and mortality rates in the state.
The state government, he said, had so far purchased and distributed anti-malaria drugs worth more than N40 million.
Issa said that the state had commenced the activation of the fistula projects in specialist hospitals in the state.
This, he said, informed the rehabilitation of the Ilorin, Omu-Aran, Offa, Share and Kaiama general hospitals.
The commissioner, who also said 13 new ambulances were distributed, added that this was to ensure the well-being of the people.
