Kwara Police Partner Federal Fire Service to Boost Emergency Response Capacity

Date: 2026-08-07

The Kwara State Police Command has partnered with the Federal Fire Service to train its officers and personnel on fire prevention and emergency response as part of efforts to strengthen operational preparedness and improve safety across police formations.

The training, held at the Police Officers' Mess in Ilorin, was organised in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to build a more professional and operationally prepared Police Force.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.

The exercise was attended by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Ojo Adekimi, members of the Command Management Team, senior officers and other police personnel.

Participants received training on fire prevention, emergency management, the different types of fire extinguishers, their functions, appropriate applications, and basic procedures for responding to fire outbreaks.

The programme also featured practical sessions involving controlled fire scenarios, where officers were trained on the proper handling and effective use of various fire extinguishers.

According to the statement, the exercise reinforced the importance of calm, timely and appropriate responses during fire emergencies.

The training was facilitated by the Head of Department, Information, Investigation and Enforcement of the Federal Fire Service, Kwara State Command, DSF Toyin Ibrahim, alongside her team.

The Police Command said the collaboration underscores the importance of inter-agency cooperation in enhancing emergency preparedness, protecting lives and property, and strengthening the practical response capabilities of security personnel.

Speaking at the event, Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi commended the State Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Kwara State Command, ACF Ibrahim Adisa Sarafadeen, for facilitating the training and sharing the agency's expertise with police officers.

He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to continuous professional development and stronger collaboration with relevant agencies.

"Modern policing requires personnel who are prepared not only for security operations but also to respond responsibly to emergencies that may threaten lives and critical infrastructure," Adekimi said.

The police commissioner also urged participating officers to apply the knowledge acquired during the training and promote a culture of safety across their respective formations.
