AGILE Project Mobilises SBMCs With 50% Funds for 111 School Upgrades in Kwara
The Kwara State Government has accelerated education sector reforms as the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project mobilised School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) for large-scale school renovation projects statewide.
At a high-level sensitisation in Ilorin, stakeholders were briefed on implementation strategies ahead of infrastructure upgrades targeting 898 public secondary schools across the state.
The Honourable Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe led the proceedings, emphasising that the initiative aligns with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's education reform agenda, noting that sustained investments continue to transform learning environments and expand access to quality education.
He disclosed that Technical Service Providers, working through SBMCs in 111 pilot schools, have been mobilised with 50 per cent of the total contract sum, with 56.7 per cent of the schools under the small grants category and 43.2 per cent under the medium grants category.
The first phase, he said, covers 24 schools in Asa, 25 in Ilorin West, 10 in Offa, 16 in Oyun, and 18 schools each in Ilorin East and Ilorin South, serving as a benchmark for scaling up public secondary schools.
The commissioner assured that additional public schools would be considered for selection in subsequent phases of the school upgrade programme as part of efforts to accelerate access to improved learning environments across the state.
The AGILE Project, supported by the World Bank and other development partners, remains central to Kwara's strategy to strengthen infrastructure and improve learning outcomes.
