Unilorin VC Warns US Against Invading Nigeria, Calls for Military Aid Instead

Date: 2025-11-26

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin (Unilorin), Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has cautioned the American government to shun the plan to invade Nigeria over the current insecurity issues confronting the country.

He stated this on Tuesday at a press conference in Ilorin, marking the 50th Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the institution.

Professor Egbewole said Nigeria required assistance in the area of military weapons and intelligence to overcome the security challenges facing the country, rather than foreign intervention.

He further advised Nigerians to discard radical extremism and join hands with the government to save the country from security challenges.

Golden Jubilee Achievements

On the golden jubilee anniversary of the University of Ilorin, Professor Egbewole noted that the institution has achieved the purpose of its establishment in the last 50 years through research and innovation.

He said since the creation of the university in 1975, it has become a great citadel of learning through the resilience and hard work of the founding fathers. He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the support extended to the university to enable it to attain its present level of development.

The VC, also commended the University community, security agencies, students and management of the institution for contributing their quota towards better growth and development of the institution.
