Two Dead in Omu-Aran Unrest as Traditional Ruler's Palace Attacked, His Fate Unknown
Two fatalities have been reported following clashes between police and criminal groups in Omu-Aran, headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area (LGA), Kwara State, during unrest on 25-26 May 2025, DAILY POST reports.
A security source confirmed to DAILY POST on Wednesday that the whereabouts of Oba Joshua Olutade Adeoti, Olomu of Omu-Aran, remain unknown after his palace was attacked during the violence. The traditional ruler's residence was stormed, and a motorcycle was set ablaze.
Efforts to contact the police public relations officer, Superintendent Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, and the Olomu for comment were unsuccessful. While security forces deployed seven Toyota Hilux vehicles to the area have restored calm, residents remain anxious amid lingering tensions.
The crisis erupted when suspected criminals resisted police efforts to arrest an alleged drug dealer, sparking confrontations that spilled into broader unrest.
The police command had reported on Tuesday that five suspects had been arrested in connection with the multiple disturbances in the community.
Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo had also ordered intensified patrols and surveillance to forestall a recurrence, while investigations are ongoing.
The police command urged the public to remain calm, cooperate with law enforcement, and desist from spreading unverified or false information, as the command remains resolute in its commitment to maintaining peace, enforcing the law, and safeguarding lives and property.
