Federal Government Declares Friday, Monday 2025 Easter Public Holidays, Urges National Reflection
The Federal Government has declared Friday, 18 April, and Monday, 21 April 2025, as public holidays to mark Good Friday and Easter Monday.
Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced the holidays on Tuesday, urging Nigerians to reflect on the virtues of sacrifice and love exemplified by Jesus Christ, whose death is central to Christian teachings on redemption.
In a statement issued by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, the government encouraged citizens to use the holiday period to pray for national peace, unity, and stability. The minister underscored the importance of fostering collective harmony during this observance.
He reassured citizens of President Bola Tinubu's commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to foster national growth and development.
"Furthermore, he encouraged Nigerians to extend love and goodwill to their neighbours through acts of kindness and generosity.
"The minister wished all Christians a blissful Easter celebration and extended warm holiday greetings to all Nigerians," the statement added.
