Ilorin NBA Branch Celebrates First Female Senior Advocate of Nigeria

Date: 2024-10-24

According to Leadership, the Ilorin branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Kwara State, has made history with the inauguration of its first female Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Barrister Ronke Adeyemi, who hails from Ekiti State but is a long-standing member of the Ilorin branch of the NBA, was among the lawyers elevated to the prestigious rank of SAN on Monday by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

Adeyemi, a University of Benin graduate who was called to Bar in 1993, has been practising in Ilorin since 1995. Her recognition marks a significant milestone in the over 50-year history of the NBA Ilorin branch, making her the first female legal practitioner resident in Ilorin to receive the honour.

She was the vice chairman of NBA, Ilorin branch, from 2007 to 2009 and the chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Kwara State branch, from 2014 to 2017.

She also served as a member of the Judicial Panel of Enquiry on the EndSARS protests in 2020 and was a member of the national executive committee (NEC) of the NBA between 2020 and 2022.

Adeyemi is currently the President of the Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) and also the first female to occupy such position in the state.
