Dr Bukola Saraki Expresses Grief Over Death of Kwara PDP Chieftain Alhaji Yusuf

Date: 2024-10-13

A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Alhaji Sulaiman Yusuf, also known as Maja, has passed away.

Yusuf, who died on Friday night, was laid to rest on Saturday at his Babatunde Kasum Road residence in Ilorin, in accordance with Islamic rites.

The late Yusuf was a well-known grassroots politician who served in various capacities during his lifetime, including as Commissioner for Works, Special Adviser on Political Matters, and Chairman of the Kwara State Local Government Service Commission.

In a condolence message, former Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki expressed deep sadness and a profound sense of loss at Yusuf's passing, describing it as a personal loss to him, the Saraki political family, the PDP, and Kwara State as a whole.

Saraki's condolence message was signed by his Press Officer on Local Matters, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir.

He described the deceased as a family associate who related intimately with the Saraki dynasty.

“Today, we have lost a titan and a rare gem. Alhaji Suleiman Maja was a part of the Saraki dynasty whose loyalty and devotion were never a subject of doubt either to Baba Oloye or myself.

“He was a member of the PDP Elders Council, a close confidant, trusted party leader, and reliable ally all through his lifetime.

“The loyalty he showed to the Saraki political family and his commitment to humanity's service will never be forgotten,” Saraki said.

The PDP has also expressed heartfelt sadness over the demise of Yusuf, describing him as a compassionate and dependable party man.

The party in a condolence message signed by its state Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Adewara said, “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State is grief-stricken and devastated to learn of the passing of one of the esteemed members of our Elders Council, a committed and loyal party man, Alhaji Suleiman Yusuf Kayode, popularly known as Maja.

“The death of such a graceful and compassionate elder, who was unwavering in his loyalty to the PDP and the Saraki political family until his last breath, has come to the party as a rude shock.

“Alhaji Maja was an embodiment of patriotism and selflessness, dedicated to the cause of the PDP and the betterment of Kwara State. He was a core politician, a true grassroots man who lived for the people around him.”
