Kwara Pensioners Urge Governor to Implement Pension Adjustment Based on New Minimum Wage
As reported by Nigerian Tribune, members of the Kwara State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) have appealed to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to implement the consequential adjustment on pensions, in line with the ?30,000 minimum wage.
In a statement jointly signed by the union's chairman, Comrade Saidu Oladimeji, and the secretary, Comrade Chief Abraham Jona Gana JP, the pensioners noted that this request had been agreed upon in June 2023.
The pensioners further urged the governor to consider a pension increase, explaining that the request is backed by a circular from the Salaries and Wages Commission, which had been issued by the union's National Headquarters to the state.
They also urged the governor to approve and implement the new national minimum wage to go along with both the serving and retired workers.
The pensioners also reminded the governor to direct the Geographical Information Service (GIS) to actualise the release of allocation paper and land as requested by the union to enable it to put up its permanent secretariat building in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
They implored the governor to see to backlog arrears of gratuities being owed to both the state and local government workers.
The NUP joined other well-meaning individuals and groups to felicitate with pensioners in the state over this year's Pensioners' Day, wishing its members many returns of the occasion.
