First Female SAN in NBA Ilorin's 57-Year History: Ronke Adeyemi Makes History

Date: 2024-10-04

The Ilorin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has lauded the historic conferment of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on Barrister Ronke Adeyemi, stating that it marks a turning point for women in the legal profession within the jurisdiction.

Speaking with City & Crime, the branch chairman, Muhammed Kosemani, described the achievement as both inspirational and a challenge to her colleagues, particularly women, to strive for excellence in their careers.

Adeyemi, a legal practitioner from Ekiti State, has been practising law in Ilorin and made history as the first female to receive the prestigious SAN title in the NBA Ilorin branch's 57-year existence since its founding in 1967. She was among the latest cohort of lawyers inaugurated as SANs on Monday by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

According to the Il?rin Bar chairman, “Female lawyers here should see this as a catalyst to revolutionise their attitude to practise.''
