Kwara Pledges Support for Monarchs

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has said that his government would continue to accord due recognition, respect and support to the traditional rulers in the state.

Governor Ahmed made this known on Saturday in his address at the presentation of 3rd class staff of office to the new Owa'lobbo of Obbo-Aiyegunle, Oba (Dr) Samuel Oluleye Adelodun, held at Araromi-Opin, the Headquarters of  Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.

Ahmed who was represented on the occasion by his deputy, Elder Peter Kisira, pledged that his administration, in line with its policy of continuity, would do everything possible to make all traditional titled holders in the state comfortable to enable them discharge their traditional responsibilities to the best of their abilities.

The governor who underscored the roles of traditional institution in nation building promised that his government was ever ready to accord the institution with necessary assistance in the interest of growth and development of the society.

"There is no doubt that Royal fathers remain veritable tools for grass root mobilization, cohesion, socioeconomic and political development.

"You are the first contact with the people, the custodian and voice of tradition, custom and value of the people. You are the interpreters of history and morality.

"It is in recognition of your leadership values and influence that Government often partner with Royal fathers in the maintenance of peace and security in our community" the governor added

Governor Ahmed therefore advised the new Owa'lobbo of Obbo-Aiyegunle to see his emergence as the new Oba as not by power but by the wisdom of God.

"You should therefore thank God for His mercy, on which basis you will be expected to endavour to close ranks with all and sundry in you domain and continue to provide exemplary and effective leadership for the much needed development of your domain" he added. In his address, the state commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Alhaji Isa Adamu Bawa said that the occasion was an indication of  respect and regard the administration of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed has for the Traditional institution in the state.

Bawa commanded the traditional king makers and the entire people of Obbo-Aiyegunle for following the due process and maintaining peace before and after the selection of by the Traditional King makers, and the subsequent approval by the Government.

He therefore called on the people of the community to cooperate with the new Oba in order to realize the desire of the community's objective.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of Ekiti Local Government, Hon. Abraham ‘Bode Ogunleye thanked all the stake holders especially all the ruling houses for the rare display of maturity and sense of patriotism in the matter.

Also speaking, the President of Obbo-Aiyegunle Improvement Union (OAIU) Chief Z D Ojo thanked government for the good role it played on the state traditional in the state particularly in their community and solicited government assistance in the areas of upgrading of Owa'lobbo,construction of Osi/Obbo-Aiyegunle /Ishan (Ekiti State Boundary)road, among others.

In his address, Oba Adelodun described his position as a call to duty and a call to serve the people of his community.
