Kwara State Government Pushes for Tractor Availability to Farmers for Enhanced Food Production
As reported by The Punch, the Kwara State Government has urged local government authorities to ensure that the newly procured tractors are made available to farmers at the grassroots level, as part of a broader strategy to strengthen food security in the state.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Community Development, Hon. Abubakar Bata, made this appeal during the unveiling of the tractors in Ilorin. Each tractor comes with implements such as a plough, ridger, harrow, and a tractor-trailer. Bata expressed excitement that the local councils were able to purchase the tractors, reflecting an improvement in their allocation. He emphasized that these tractors would significantly enhance farming activities in rural areas.
“The decision of the local councils to purchase these tractors and the many accessories is a thoughtful one, and I believe it corroborates the position of His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq that no one takes local council funds,” he said.
Bata added, “We urge the local councils to endeavour to make these new tractors available for massive agricultural activities in their areas.
“We believe this will complement the massive investment of the state government in this regard,” he stressed.
