Kwara Youth Trainees Begin Borehole Repairs Across Local Communities
According to a news report from The Informant247, trainees from the Kwara Training, Repair, Empowerment and Community-ownership (KWATRECO) initiative have commenced the repair of faulty boreholes in various communities across the 16 local government areas of the state.
This development follows the Kwara State Government's empowerment training, aimed at engaging the youth in meaningful activities.
The Informant247 reports that public infrastructure, particularly water facilities, has received prompt attention as communities and public officials engage KWATRECO trainees. For instance, Amidu Idris, a participant from Ile-Apa in Ilorin East Local Government Area, successfully repaired two faulty boreholes in his community with the support of other youths shortly after completing the training.
Additionally, Honourable AbdulRazaq Omotosho Bellumi, representing the Isin constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, has also enlisted KWATRECO trainees to repair non-functional boreholes in his constituency. To support these efforts, Honourable Bellumi funded the repair of boreholes in the Oke-Onigbin and Iwo communities, expressing satisfaction with the trainees' performance.
“I wish to commend Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's led administration for the empowering training which allowed us to acquire the skill. As a team, we were so happy that we could fix those boreholes independently,” he added.
Also speaking, another participant, Adeyemi Omotoyosi, described the training as an 'eye-opener', saying, “With the support of our lawmaker, we had successfully demonstrated what we learnt through the KWATRECO project as we also used the tools the government gave to our local government area for the training.”
The trainees, therefore, called for more support and charged the government to provide more tools for each of the local government areas for them to be more engaged.
