Argentina and Barcelona Forward, Lionel Messi has today won the 2012 UNILORIN SPORTS 360 ATHLETE OF THE YEAR after receiving 23 votes from the total 53 votes cast on 89.3 UNILORIN FM special programme 'SPORTS IN RETROSPECT'.

His main challenger and rival Cristiano Ronaldo got 22 votes from Sports 360 fans that voted on Facebook and Twitter accounts of UNILORIN FM.

Tennis stars Andy Murray and Serena Williams received 2 votes each while fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt was only able to gather just 2 votes.

Lionel Messi who emerged '2012 UNILORIN SPORTS 360 ATHLETE OF THE YEAR', scored a record 91 goals for club and country in 2012. He is also in contention for the 2012 Ballon D'Or in the next couple of days.
