The Kwara state government spent over N100 million on the provision of relief materials to victims of natural disasters in the outgoing year.

Abdullahi further disclosed that over 25,000 people were provided with relief materials across the state as 32 hectares of farmland with crops like rice, millet, guinea corn, maize as well as other items worth over N85 million naira were submerged by flood in some local government areas in the state.

He said the state emergency management agency has trained over 50 students on disaster management.

During the outgoing year, the special adviser said that the emergency relief committee has worked with other MDAs in the state to open up drainages in order to allow free flow of water

Abdullahi warned the people of the state against doing anything capable of igniting disasters in their domain.

He commended Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for his prompt response to disaster issues and also thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for the level of support the state had received from the federal government towards ameliorating the condition of flood victims.
