Maimartaba Sarkin Ilorin, Alh Dr. Ibrahim Zulu Gambari, The Emir of Ilorin has been appointed as the new chancellor of Bayero University, Kano State by the Federal government of Nigeria.

The appointment was announced in a letter signed by the Honorable minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.

According to the letter, The Chancellor shall, in relation to the University, take precedence before all other members of the University and, when he is present, shall preside at all meetings of Convocation held for conferring degrees.

“The Chancellor shall be presented to the university community and the wider public at a specially organized Investiture Ceremony or at the next Convocation of the Institution when the Investiture of the Chancellor will precede the event.”

Sulu Gambari Dan Bawa CFR is the 11th and current Emir of Ilorin.

He ascended to the throne in 1995 succeeding his uncle Aliyu Dan Abdulkadir.

The monarch is the Chairman of Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council.

He is one of the 10 prominent traditional rulers in northern Nigeria.
