Kwara PDP Attacks ACN Candidate over Comments on Gov Ahmed

Date: 2012-12-14

The Director of Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Mas'ud Adebimpe has referred to the candidate of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Muhammed Dele Belgore, SAN, as a frustrated politician who lacks decorum and simple courtesy expected of a supposed role model.

In his reaction to a statement credited to Dele Belgore in one of the national dailies to the effect that the Abdulfatah Ahmed administration lacks credibility, Mas'ud said for the failed Action Congress of Nigeria's candidate in the last gubernatorial election in the State to have made such a sweeping, unsubstantiated and inchoate insinuation only demonstrates his level of frustration, having gone into oblivion and inconsequentiality after the landmark supreme court judgement that validated governor Ahmed's election.

It is indeed very surprising that Belgore appears not to know, understand and appreciate the essence of Shared Prosperity. Perhaps, he needs to transverse the State to see, understand and appreciate what shared prosperity stands for.

For the avoidance of doubt, it is suffice here to point out some ongoing projects in various sectors of the economy of the state. In the health sector, for instance, the old site of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital is being restructured to give Ilorin, the State capital an ultra modern General Hospital with State-of-the-art equipment. Four General hospitals in Offa, Share, Kaiama and Omu-Aran are also being upgraded to meet modern health challenges.

Over 2000 youths have enjoyed access to employment either through the Kwara State Bridge Empowerment Scheme (KWABES) or direct employment into the civil service and other forms of salaried employment.

Similarly, Small and Medium Scale entrepreneurial culture is been promoted by the Abdulfatah administration through the micro credit facility scheme to people of the State. Yet, somebody says Shared Prosperity is not working.

For any keen observer of current realities in Nigeria in the last two years, it is obvious that virtually all tiers of Government in the country have had to contend with shortfall in revenue allocation. It is, thus, very worrisome that Belgore averred in the said interview that the Kwara State Government has "got more money in the last one and half years than we have had in quite sometime".

This is obviously pervert reasoning because it lacks empirical facts and it is hugely unsubstantiated. Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed remains committed to the programme of shared prosperity for all stakeholders by leveraging on our resourcefulness and our strength in impactful economic growth, human capital development and youth empowerment, strategic infrastructure and effective governance.
