Land Tussle: Kwara Govt Asks Parties to Go to Court
The Kwara State government yesterday warned parties to a disputed plot of land at Ilorin airport road, not to take the law into their hands but refer the issue to the courts of law for adjudication.
The government's warning came on the heels of an alleged burning of a place of worship along the airport road by yet to be identified persons.
The state government has also directed the law enforcement agencies to bring the full weight of the law to bear on any person or group found to have committed arson or destroyed public or private property under any guise.
The government in a statement by the secretary to the state government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold, condemned "the reported destruction of a building at checkpoint area of Ilorin airport road by yet unknown persons but described the disagreement as a communal land dispute rather than religious".
While commending Muslim and Christian leaders in the state for maintaining a harmonious relationship, the government said, "the state police command has been advised to fish out and prosecute those responsible for the arson attack on the said building.
"The state government called on law-abiding citizens to go about their normal activities without fear. The police and other law enforcement agencies are fully ready to protect lives and property in the state."
