Kwara police beef up security in Ilorin over Sunday Igboho's rumoured visit

Date: 2021-06-05

There was anxiety in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital on Friday following tight security around the metropolis by personnel.

DAILY POST reports that the entry points of the state capital were manned by armed security men including soldiers.

The frontage of the state police command headquarters on Ahmadu Bello way was also blocked with patrol vehicles and armed police operatives.

Motorists plying the road were forced to divert to other routes.

Our correspondent gathered that the security beef-up may not be unconnected with the rumour that the Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, planned to visit the state capital.

However, in a text message to DAILY POST on the issue, the spokesman of the police command, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, said " There is nothing to worry or panic about."

He said "The security beef up is part of the measures put in place by the command to keep Kwara safe.

"People should go about their lawful businesses without fear please," the spokesman added.
