Press Release: NANS Kwara Gets Approval to Inagurate Campus Drug Free Clubs in Kwara Tertiary Institutions

Date: 2012-10-25

Below is the text of a press release by NANS Kwara

Sequel to the partnership NANS KWARA with NDLEA for the establishment of CAMPUS DRUG FREE CLUB in all Tertiary Institutions in Kwara State sometimes in August, we are glad to inform you all the partnership has gotten an approval from the NDLEA Headquarter in Lagos.

Despite the delay and change of the Kwara State NDLEA former Commander Comr. Mrs Omotunde Koleosho, the good intention and humanitarian service behind this new development has eventually gotten the feather to fly all around kwara state.

We have the full courage to bring to your notice that this club will take immediate effect in all campuses in our state of harmony.

CAMPUS DRUG FREE CLUB is an innovation to reduce the menace of drug use, abuse and trafficking amongst students and the youths at large. Hopefully, it will go a long way to sanitize Kwara State and make it a Drug Free State.

Drug abuse blocks meaningful use of time, energy and creative thinking. It destroys a person's ambition to become great, thereby make him unproductive and liability to the society.

These serious facts notwithstanding, various research reports and glaring witnesses have confirmed that Nigerian Youths in urban and rural areas and different socio-economic backgrounds, unfortunately, indulge in the use or abuse of unprescribed drugs, both licit and illicit. When we view these against the fact that youths are the future of any nation and larger in number than any other age group in our society, there is much cause for alarm and concern!

There is no doubt in everyone's mind that the most effective weapon against drug is prevention. In fact, prevention is not only better but cheaper than cure!

In order to effectively tackle drug problems amongst students and youths at large, and strategically look into the issue of social vices that is common in our community, we have seen the reason to partner with NDLEA as a necessity to bring this crisis to a zero level by the inauguration of this club in both Higher Institutions and Secondary schools of learning.

The rationale behind the setting up of the club is to pursue activities aimed at promoting drug-free style amongst students as we pursue our education career on a normal platform.

The task to make Kwara State a Drug Free abode is a compulsory mission that must be certainly accomplished. Surely, it will bring us more peace and harmony.

NANS KWARA hereby solicits for the supportive hand of the State Government, Managements of Schools, Stake Holders in both Education/Health Sector, Corporate Organizations, Philantrophists and all Students to enable this concept hit its set goals.

Our Special appreciation goes to the New NDLEA Commander, Mr Segun Oke, for his patriotism and good leadership style. We also give kudos to all managements that has showed interest and are welcoming the club with open arms, as we crave the acceptance of all.

Let us all stand today and join NANS/NDLEA in saying:
NO TO DRUG ABUSE!!!

Signed:
COMR. MALLAM AKOREDE SHAKIR Lom.
Chairman, NANS KWARA
