Mrs Ahmed Distributes Eid-el-Kabir Gifts to 1,200 Aged Women
Aged women across Kwara State were full of joy on Monday as they were presented with Eid-el-Kabir packages at the Mandate Hall, Ilorin, by the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed.
Speaking at the occasion, the governor's wife reminded them that their welfare was of paramount importance, hence the presentation of the gifts which included; clothing materials, foodstuff, vegetable oil and cash.
She said that the aged should be cared for in the society and that governments should endeavour to have a strong policy and budget to cater specially for the aged, adding that they are weak and vulnerable.
Mrs. Ahmed said that the Life Empowered Anchors Hope (LEAH) Charity Foundation of which she is the founding trustee had been catering for widows and the aged since its inception, adding that it was the tradition of her office and the foundation to make women and the aged happy by giving them packages during religious festivals as it was done during the Ramadan period.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Poverty Alleviation, Alhaja Sarat Adebayo, commended the efforts of Mrs. Ahmed at making life easy for the women folk, irrespective of age, social, political or religious inclination.
The governor's aide also commended the LEAH Charity Foundation for always taking care of the aged and praised LEAH charity's laudable programmes.
Hajia Adebayo charged the beneficiaries to use the cash and materials judiciously.
Responding on behalf of the over 1,200 aged women present, Alhaja Kuburat Ibrahim, thanked the wife of the governor for bringing smiles to the faces of the aged in the festive season and prayed that as she was taking care of the aged, so will God be taking care of everything that concerned her.
She promised the unflinching support of the aged in all activities of hers and those of Leah Charity Foundation.
